Preparation of infusion: put 1 tablespoon of dried herb in a cup of hot water and let steep for about 10 minutes. Strain and drink 1-2 cups a day. If a less irritating action is desired, the infusion can be prepared by placing the leaves in cold water and letting them steep for 10-12 hours. In fact, in this way the substances responsible for cramps at the gastroenteric level are extracted in smaller quantities. Contraindications: as for side effects, it can cause intestinal spasms and diarrhea. It is recommended not to use Senna for a period longer than 8-10 days as prolonged use in excessive amounts, due to its mechanism of action, can cause severe gastro-intestinal irritation, electrolyte loss and habituation with intestinal hypomotility to the point of atony. It is contraindicated for use in children under 12 years of age, during pregnancy, lactation and in cases of ulcerative colitis and diverticulitis. May interact with anti-arrhythmic drugs and diuretics.
